Customer Service Rant

You will see me write a lot about this topic. It is one of my pet complaints when it is bad and one of the great joys when it is done well.

In these tough economic times you might think that people manning stores that are trying to sell you things would hop right up and greet you when you entered a store and ask if they could help you. Sadly, that is not the case, which is one of the reason so many businesses fail.

As an example: a recent trip to shop for furniture lead meto several stores. One was Rooms to Go. I got great service, helpful but not too pressured. Then I went to Ethan Allen walked into a gaggle of several women telling stories to each other and laughing. No one said a word to me. After browsing the entire store I then passed the same desk on the way out and one startled woman, sitting there now all alone, asked if I needed anything. Too little way too late!

Wake up sales people. Get out of the seat, away from the computer, off the cell phone and talk to me! Who knows you might actually make a sale, the lady at Rooms to Go did.
